Why did this mask fail?

Review

Video Transcript Hey, everyone. Welcome back to the place, we are testing every single mask on Amazon. Today, we are looking at the Albatross Protective Mask. Let's get it in the clamper, and then yabber some more... Yabber? Is yabber a word? All right, last time I did this, I totally clamped my hand. Not this time, not today, Satan.

Let's let it rip, this is a PFE machine, particulate filtration efficiency machine. We are doing the American test on an American mask. I think, anyway, this is the Albatross Health New England store. Okay. I will. Seems American. Although we have to manufacture and import our products from abroad, you will get lifetime technical support from the New England Health Small Business [inaudible 00:00:53]. Okay. So it seems like it's maybe not made in the US, but it ships from the US. All right.

Albatross is a weird brand. Enhanced, thicken, triple layer protection. Triple layer, enhanced thicken. It is a thick mask, look at that. And it was weird, this was the one, right? This was open when we got it, which is weird. It was torn open. Okay. There's no quality certificate and actually, you need to put the country of origin, and they're not doing that. So they're kind of violating some US trade laws here. Yeah, they're not putting the country of origin.

See if we can figure it out. So the enhanced thicken fabric is just a thicker outer layer. I think they did that for the black. That is insane. That's great. Not making any claims on the box. Ooh, the first one was much better. Wow. That is really thick fabric. Oh, the ear loops are enormous. Wow. This would fit on a really big head. And then, oh my gosh, are you kidding me? Scissors, scalpel.

Scalpel.

I almost cut my finger, right there. I got to be way more careful.

[inaudible 00:02:19].

Yep. Dude. This is a plastic nose wire. These are horrible, I can tell as soon as I put it on my face. Look at this, see that? Look at it, see that, see where in my nose, and there's a lot of stuff around there, as my daughter would say, that's where the Corona gets in.

She said that unprompted, I didn't coach her. Put that clip in there. Yeah. That's not great. That's not great. Really thick fabric though. Not making any claims here that I can tell. Quality tested. Ooh, wait a second, wait, I spoke too soon. Tested by Nelson Labs for quality. Filtration efficiency, ASTM level two. Okay. That's great. All right. So they're claiming ASTM level two. Good news people. That's what this machine does. It's a $250,000 lab to test our own surgical masks, and we do exactly that test right here. Which means it needs to pass at 98% or better. That's what this machine needs to say. Making claims. But can you back up your claims? All right, Albatross, wherever you may be manufactured. Oh, did I do the smell test? I got so distracted by the terrible nose wire.

Probably China. I think it's made in China. It smells like Chinese polypropylene, so that's what I call it, Chinese polypropylene. It's one word actually. What's the results? Let's do this. Let's do it together, ready? Three, two. Oh, close, I'd count that. 97.141. Look, great brand, great construction, smells not too bad, not meeting 98%, but this is one test. You can do multiple tests when you send these out and there are variabilities in how we're doing the tests, so I would almost count that. They're not technically meeting the standard, there are better masks. There are better masks, I got to link to every single mask we've tested. We get 99s in here, we just did. We just got a 99 in here, what was the breathability?

40.

40 pascals on the breathability. That's a great breathable mask. Good brand though. Albatross, is that a negative thing? Isn't albatross like, I have an albatross hanging over my head, isn't it? Is that a saying? That seems like a weird flex, but I like the box. So, soft touch box, don't know if I mentioned that, but I felt it with my hands. All right, thank you guys so much for watching. I appreciate you and running a little competition, right now. I'm not going to ask you for likes and subscribes. No more. I'm a changed man. Instead, I'm asking for comments. If you saw this video drop in the last 24 hours, give me a comment below, and you could win big. Actually, you could win small. You could win kind of, it's possible. Check out the link, where we explain it. Give me a comment. And I will catch you on the next test, which is tomorrow at 10:00 AM. Every day, we are dropping a new video. See you then.

Description

The Albatross Health New England mask passed our particulate filtration efficiency machine test with a score of 97.14%This 3-ply black surgical mask has ear loops instead of head straps or ties.

Mask breathability is determined by airflow resistance, which we measure in pascals. The target for adults should be around 150, and the target for children should be close to 100. The airflow resistance of this mask is 40.

This mask has a plastic odor. The ear loops are too large and there's a plastic nose wire, so the fit is less than ideal. Albatross Health New England is also just shy of the 98% filtration required to meet the ASTM level 2 certification they claim to have.

We found this mask on Amazon. Its country of origin is the USA. Check out our video review for more details.

Loyd:

These are not made in USA. Even a brief investigation on Amazon will show you the seller is misrepresenting things.
