Customers say

Customers buy this mask because it is made in America, a fact more than 3,300 of them mention without being asked. Many came to it after rashes, broken ear loops, or chemical smells from imported masks bought on Amazon or at the drugstore. They keep buying it because it stays comfortable through a long workday, fits across most adult faces, and ends the glasses fogging caused by most other earloop masks, thanks to a metal nose wire that seals against the bridge of the nose. The ear loops draw mixed feedback, since the right tension depends on the shape of the wearer’s face.

Love they are Made in America

Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2020

Love they are Made in America! And pricing was competitive with the masks available locally from China. Love the blue color, the fit was perfect and the ear loops comfortable. The adjustable nose wire perfects the fit. Thank you so much, I will order again!

Very happy with the masks

Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2020

I’m very happy with the masks. They cover my face better than others I have seen. The mask is comfortable, breathable, American made, and also has the testing to show its effectiveness. There are so many masks out there but I research everything and Armbrust masks are excellent.

As always, the best quality masks

As always, the best quality masks. Bought the denim color before but my wife loves the rainbow pack. Made in America and pretty much the only FDA certified surgical masks a non-healthcare professional can get its hands on right now. I highly recommend.

I first purchased my masks

Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2021

I first purchased my masks when I was looking to replace the cheap, made in China, masks being distributed at my job. I specifically wanted ones made in the USA and came upon this site. I ordered my first 50 just to see how well they were made and was not disappointed. The material is better, the loops are stronger and the nose bridge keeps my exhaled breath from fogging up my glasses as much. Overall pleased with this product. I told 5 coworkers, who also purchased masks and ultimately bought other colors, as did I. Great product

This mask is simply super

Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2021

This mask is simply super comfortable. It feels as soft as cloth. It is big enough to stretch easily from the bridge of my nose to well under my chin. The ear-loops are soft and strong and stay on well. The nose bridge is terrific: you can pinch it to fit your nose snugly. I love these! I keep sharing them with family and friends.

In their own words

The five reasons customers buy this mask

1 It’s made in America.

This is the number one thing we hear from customers. Out of 13,000+ reviews, more than 3,300 customers mention “made in USA” or “American made” without being asked. Nearly three hundred name Texas. About 120 use the phrase “Buy American.” About one in four reviewers brings up domestic manufacturing on their own.

For most of these customers, it is not a tiebreaker. It is the reason they typed Armbrust into a search bar in the first place.

★★★★★Village G.
“sturdy and reliable mask love that its made in USA!.”
★★★★★Mars C.
“Great level-2 surgical masks which are Made in USA!!.”
★★★★★Han N.
“Great mask.”
★★★★★Lev G.
“we are very happy that these masks made in USA!.”

2 It’s better than the Chinese masks they were already buying.

The second-loudest theme is a comparison, and it is unflattering to the imports. More than 600 reviewers mention China or Chinese masks by name with almost all of them are telling the same story. They had been buying cheap imports from Amazon, Costco, or the drugstore. Something went wrong: a rash, a broken ear loop, a chemical smell. They went looking for an American mask and ended up here.

★★★★★Walter B.
“My family and i have been wearing these mask for 3 years now and they work.”
★★★★★Orielle M.
“These are high quality Made in the USA masks with no funny smell, unlike the ones I ordered from a company that imports their.”
★★★★★Dale W.
“Well made and quality masks!.”
★★★★★Lee M.
“My eyeglasses don';t fog up with these masks like the China made ones.”

3 Their glasses stop fogging.

This one is specific enough that we did not expect it to be as big as it is. Almost four hundred reviewers wear glasses and wrote in to say this is the mask that finally stopped them from fogging up. Among everyone who mentions glasses at all, more than four out of five are telling the fog story. The credit goes to our specially designed, extra thick, double metal nose wire, which lets the mask seal against the bridge of the nose instead of letting hot breath escape upward.

★★★★★Terry M.
“I love these masks for work.”
★★★★★Paul W.
“My wife loves these masks for work, she needs the nose wire to keep her glasses from fogging, these are much better quality than.”
★★★★★Sheila F.
“I feel these masks are the best, I would not have bought them is they were made in China, only buy masks made in USA.”

4 It fits, and they can wear it all day.

More than 3,000 reviewers describe the mask as comfortable. Another 3,100 talk about fit. Teachers say they wear it through a six-hour day. Nurses wear it through a ten-hour shift. People who wore other masks and got headaches or rashes write in to say this is the one that stopped happening. The most-talked about hero is the nose wire, which 289 customers call out by name because it lets them shape the mask to their actual face.

★★★★★Mary K.
“High quality mask, comfortable and made in the USA.”
★★★★★Jane R.
“Love these mask they fit my face perfectly and are so soft!.”
★★★★★Thomas S.
“I can comfortably wear these masks all day as I teach my class.”
★★★★★Linda S.
“Thank you so much for making these masks for us to keep us safer in these times!.”

5 They recommend it to family and friends. Then they reorder it themselves.

Nearly a thousand reviewers use the word “recommend.” Another nine hundred call it the best mask they’ve used. More than three hundred talk about ordering it again. The most-detailed reviews say “this is my second order” or “I’m on my fifth box.” This is not a one-time pandemic purchase, it is a re-order habit.

★★★★★Lisa P.
““This is my fourth or fifth order.””
★★★★★Anthony C.
“Actually, strong and durable.”
★★★★★Joe N.
“I love these masks!.”
★★★★★Cheryll R.
“Love these masks.”

Critical reviews

What people don’t like about this mask

Out of 13,848 reviews, 524 are critical (1, 2, or 3 stars). That’s 3.8% of everyone who wrote in. The vast majority of customers (96%) gave it 4 or 5 stars. We are publishing the negatives here for the same reason we publish the lab results: if customers can’t read what other customers actually said, the rest of the page is harder to believe. We read every critical review. The themes that came up more than once are below, with the actual quote attached, and a short line explaining where we landed.

The ear loops feel different than they used to.

About eighteen critical reviews say a recent order’s ear loops felt thinner, less stretchy, or pulled apart more easily. These are almost always repeat customers with a direct comparison.

★★☆☆☆M.I.
“Seems like the ear loops have been changed? It’s thinner with less stretch to it.”
★★★☆☆Morris
“Ear loops are noticeably thinner and less stretchy.”

This is the most consistent regression complaint in the negative pile. The ear loop material did change. Our very first mask used Chinese ear loops because no one made ear loops in the USA. We had to convince a Virginia-based sock maker to spin up an earloop line from specifications our founder made personally. Today we are proud of our 100% USA-made ear loops, partially made from recycled water bottles. From a technical perspective they are softer, stretchier, and last longer, but we understand that some people just don’t like change.

The fit gaps on the sides if your face is smaller.

About fifteen critical reviews describe a side-gap or ask for an in-between size between the kids’ product and the standard adult.

★★★☆☆Florita L.
“There’s a gap on both sides of my face at the mask edges. I have a thin face.”
★★★★☆Brenda S.
“Do you make a petit size? I would definitely order some of those.”

Standard surgical-mask geometry is built for an average USA adult-sized face. For small faces we have a kids mask that fits more petite adults, and if you try this adult mask and it doesn’t fit, we will happily send you a small mask at no charge. We also make an earloop saver out of soft surgical plastic. We include one of these for free with every KN95 mask but are happy to send you one for our surgical mask if you feel like it will help.

Where did the colors go?!

About sixteen critical reviews are about color: discontinued options like pink, green, orange, and grey, or a color that didn’t match what they expected.

★☆☆☆☆T.
“What happened to all the color choices? There used to be pink, green, orange, grey.”

They’re still here! We just moved them to another page. Note: the color options are not FDA cleared like the surgical mask. While the manufacturing process is the same, they do not go through the same FDA registration process as our surgical masks do.

A small number say the material feels too thin.

About seven critical reviews describe the material as thinner than expected or scratchy on the skin.

★★★☆☆Sunni S.
“These are very thin masks.”
★★★☆☆Michele A.
“They don’t fit well and are very scratchy on the cheeks.”

This product is ASTM F2100-19 Level 3 (the highest barrier level in the surgical-mask standard), three polypropylene layers, with the lab values posted in full at our lab results page. The reason our masks feel thin is because they are. We worked hard to make our fabric in-house and optimized our product for breathability. While they might feel lighter, that’s so you can breathe easier while still getting the same FDA-cleared protection that over 500,000+ people have come to rely on.

Packages going to old addresses.

Two of the original 1-star reviews on this product are about shipping rather than the product itself. After consolidating reviews from sale events, there are 218 additional 1-star reviews on file; most are about discontinued sale products and a handful are shipping issues.

★☆☆☆☆Arlene
“The company continued sending packages to my previous address even though I updated my new address.”

Address-on-file failures hit subscribers who moved. Customers should update their address before the next shipment, and if a box goes to an old address we will help replace it.

The smell from a fresh box.

About 90 critical reviews mention a chemical or burnt-fiber smell on opening. About 55 other reviewers specifically wrote “no smell” or “odorless” as a positive.

★★★☆☆Ek
“I put on my face and gagged from the burnt chemical odor.”

Polypropylene meltblown can carry residual manufacturing smell that airs out within a few hours of opening the box. If a smell is strong enough that the mask is unwearable, that is a defective batch and we replace it.

Why we publish this data

Our internal mask-testing database is separate from the FDA 510(k) clearance and ASTM conformance above. The FDA and ASTM evidence is the formal regulatory record for this specific product. The testing database is what we built to hold ourselves and the rest of the mask market accountable to the same standard. Both are useful, and they answer different questions.

Choose the right mask

Surgical mask, KN95, or N95?

Armbrust surgical mask Surgical mask

Best for lower-risk situations. Surgical masks cover the nose and mouth, filter most large particles, and meet ASTM Level 3 testing for splash and bacterial filtration. They are not airtight, so they fit short exposures, everyday wear, and source control more than dense aerosol settings.

Learn more about surgical masks →
Armbrust KN95 mask KN95 mask

A middle step up from surgical without the fit-test requirement. KN95s filter at least 95% of airborne particles and have a structured shape with ear loops. Reach for one when you want more protection in everyday settings like travel, crowded indoor spaces, or seasonal illness.

KN95 vs. N95, explained → View KN95 product →
Armbrust N95 respirator N95 respirator

The highest protection a disposable mask can offer, but only when properly fit-tested. A sealed N95 blocks the vast majority of airborne pathogens and particulates. Headbands replace ear loops to hold the seal, and a fit-test is required to confirm the mask actually fits your face.

Manufacturing

How it is made in the USA

This mask is made end-to-end in our Texas factory. Polypropylene pellets come in, get spun into the three-layer ASTM Level 3 fabric, and leave as finished masks in a 50-count box. The ear loops are spun by an American partner that originally made socks. We built this domestic supply chain because critical PPE should not depend on a global one that breaks the moment it is needed.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Product specifics

What is this product?

Armbrust USA-Made Surgical Masks are adult, single-use, non-sterile surgical masks sold in 50-count boxes. They use three polypropylene layers, including a meltblown electrostatic filter middle layer, plus elastic ear loops and a malleable metal nose wire.

Is this ASTM Level 3?

Yes. This mask conforms to ASTM F2100-19 Level 3. The product facts table lists the Level 3 evidence points buyers usually check first: PFE, BFE, differential pressure, and fluid resistance.

Is this FDA-cleared?

Yes. The surgical mask is FDA-cleared under 510(k) K210101. The K-number is shown in the hero, the specifications table, and the evidence section so the claim can be checked against the documentation.

What is 510(k) K210101?

K210101 is the FDA 510(k) clearance identifier for this surgical mask. If you are buying for a clinic, school, office, or procurement team, use that number when matching the product page to the documentation packet.

How many layers does it have?

Three. The listed construction is PP spunbond outer, meltblown electrostatic filter middle, and PP spunbond inner. That same construction appears in the specifications table so it is visible without opening a PDF.

Is it sterile?

No. This product is provided non-sterile. It is designed as a single-use adult surgical mask, not a sterile procedure mask.

How many masks come in a box?

Each box contains 50 masks. The current Shopify price for that 50-mask box is shown in the buy box and the add-to-cart button.

What is the SKU?

The Shopify SKU is 3PLY-ARMBRUST-SURGICAL-BLUE-BOX-1X50-R. Procurement buyers can use that SKU together with K210101 when checking the product against purchase records.

Is it made in the USA?

Yes. This product is made in Armbrust’s American factory. The manufacturing section links back to the testing and bulk-order paths for buyers who need more documentation.

Fit, comfort, and use

Is this a respirator?

No. This is an earloop surgical mask, not an N95 respirator. If you need a tighter face seal or headbands, compare it with the KN95 mask or the USA-made N95 respirator line.

How should I choose between surgical, KN95, and N95?

Choose this surgical mask when the requirement is an adult, ASTM Level 3, FDA-cleared earloop mask. Choose KN95 for a more structured face shape, and choose N95 when respirator fit and headbands are the buying requirement.

Will the nose wire help with glasses fog?

The malleable metal nose wire helps reduce gaps at the bridge of the nose. If your glasses fog, press the wire more closely around the bridge and cheeks; fog usually means air is escaping upward.

Are ear loops the same as headbands?

No. Earloops go around each ear and are common on surgical masks. Headbands wrap behind the head and neck, which is why they are common on N95 respirators that need a tighter fit.

Does it fit adults only?

Yes. This product is for adult use. If you need masks for children, compare the kids mask path in the related products section.

Can I wear it for a full workday?

Many exported reviews mention daily work use, comfort, and breathability. Replace the mask when it becomes soiled, damp, damaged, or hard to breathe through. For longer mask-wear guidance, see the Armbrust mask-wear guide.

Can I reuse it?

Surgical masks are designed for single use. For practical disposal and reuse questions, see Can you reuse a face mask?.

How long does it last in storage?

Mask media and elastic can degrade over time, especially with heat, moisture, and sunlight. Store boxes in a cool, dry place and read the expiration guide for more detail.

Can this help with dust or allergens?

Surgical masks can filter many airborne particles such as dust and pollen, but they do not fit like respirators. For dusty or high-particulate work, compare the answer with the dust guide and consider N95 if seal matters.

Is this the right choice for mold or smoke?

For heavy mold, wildfire smoke, or serious airborne particulate, choose a tighter-fitting KN95 or N95 instead of a loose-fit surgical mask. See the mold guide and smoke guide for more context.

Reviews and customer photos

How many reviews are included on this page?

The review module is based on 12,727 exported customer reviews from a source set of 13,848 reviews. The first cards are curated, and the topic filters load matching reviews from the exported set.

What do customers say most often?

The generated summary is based on the exported review set. Common themes include made-in-USA quality, comfort, fit, breathability, repeat purchasing, the nose wire, and use at work, school, travel, and errands.

Do the Comfort and Breathability chips filter reviews?

Yes. Choosing a topic chip now replaces the visible review cards with 10 matching reviews from the exported set, then the show-more button continues through that filtered set.

Are the customer photos clickable?

Yes. Customer photos open in the gallery modal, and the full photo set is loaded from the exported review asset the first time you open the full gallery.

Testing, data, and credibility

Are lab results available?

Yes. The evidence section links the FDA 510(k) letter, ASTM-related reports, and the Armbrust mask-testing database. The most important values are also visible in the product facts table.

What are the PFE, BFE, and breathability values?

The product facts table lists 99.48% average PFE, 99.4% average BFE, 4.7 mm H2O average differential pressure, and fluid resistance pass at 160 mmHg.

Is the mask-testing database an official certification?

No. The mask-testing database is internal, educational testing based on specific samples and dates. It is useful context, but it is separate from the FDA 510(k) clearance and ASTM Level 3 conformance.

What documents should an organization check?

Check the FDA 510(k) K210101 documentation, ASTM Level 3 support, product SKU, country of origin, and published lab values. For purchasing help and documentation packets, use the bulk order page.
