Why did this mask fail?

Review

Video Transcript Hey, everyone. Welcome back to the place where we're testing every single mask on Amazon. Today, we are looking at the M99? M95C, made in the USA, Lutema Mask. Let's open it up and put it in the clamper. Met these guys at the beginning of the pandemic when you could not get masks anywhere, and they're pretty good guys. They are really good at selling on Amazon. They sell a lot of stuff on Amazon. I think they said they manufacture shoes in Kentucky. They make light bulbs or something like that. So they've been doing this for a long time. When the pandemic hit, they were like, "We're going to make masks because people need masks." All right. This is a PFE machine, particulate filtration efficiency machine.

We are doing the N95 test. Why are we doing that? Well, that's a good question because this is not an N95, it's an M95C, which I'm guessing means for children. So let's see. What do they say here? FDA listed company, fully automated machines, ergonomic designs, manufactured in San Diego, California. Small size five layer mask, melt blown. They're not making any claims on any side. Now I'm going to go ahead and call this a claim, saying it's an M95, one letter away from N. I think people are going to probably associate that with N95. And I would assume that they would meet least 95% filtration. That said, they're not making any claims whatsoever. So I guess I can't really hold them to that.

The ear loops are very thin, stronger than I would anticipate. But I've seen stronger ear loops. Try putting it on. Remember, this is made for kids. Actually, it's a very thin mask. Oh, I know this smell well. This smell is a haunted house. I was just in a haunted house, and the smell from the smoke comes through. This smells like that smoke. It's not a terrible smell. It's not overwhelming, but it's very, very particular. A haunted house smoke smell. That's a new one for a mask. All right. Let's switch on over to the PFE machine. So you can see they're hitting their 95, just almost right on. But their airflow resistance is really high.

Personally, I like to see below 150 pascals for a mask to be worn for a long period of time, especially for a kid's mask. I mean, I've seen kids' masks as low as 100 pascals. We have N95s, legitimate NIOSH N95s on this machine that have done under 100, have done 50 pascals. So it can be done. That said, they're meeting the efficiency standard there. And remember, this company started the beginning of the pandemic. They were not making masks before then. And so we're glad to have them here, so that what happened at the beginning of the pandemic does not happen again. It's good to have more manufacturing in the United States. All right, guys. Thank you so much for watching. I hope you enjoy this.

If you end up buying this mask because of this video, or if you don't buy this mask because of this video, I'm not going to ask you for a like or subscribe because we don't do that here. That's weird. That's too needy. It's not my style, no. Instead, I'm going to ask you to help yourself by writing a comment below. We are running a competition that if you write a comment on any of our videos, every 24 hours, we're going to pick somebody from those slew of folks and we're going to send you something really cool. So you're doing this for yourself, really. Not for me. You're doing it for you. Check out details to that there. And I will catch you on the next mask.

Description

The Lutema M95c flat-fold kids mask passed our particulate filtration efficiency machine test with a score of 95.18%. This blue mask has ear loops instead of head straps or ties.

Mask breathability is determined by airflow resistance, which we measure in pascals. The target for adults should be around 150, and the target for children should be close to 100. The airflow resistance of this mask is 222.

This mask has a slight smoke odor. The incredibly high air flow score could mean this isn't the mask for an entire school day.

We found this mask on Amazon. Its country of origin is the USA. Check out our video review for more details.

I am looking for the most protection for my 3.5 year old. There is not enough information for me to purchase a kf94 mask, or kn95. Saying “KIDS MASK” could be a wide range of ages. I dont think a 3 year old will wear the same size mask as a 12 year old. Could you please clarify sizing? This has been across the board on all websites. It is very time consuming, and waste of money if wrong size.
Thank you,
Cindy
