Why We Tried

At Armbrust, our mission has always been protecting Americans with the best possible filtration products, made right here in Texas. After proving that nanofiber media could deliver N95-level protection in a mask, we asked: Why stop at personal protection?

Indoor air quality affects everyone. Wildfire smoke, allergens, and even virus-sized particles travel through our HVAC systems every day. Most “MERV-rated” filters were designed to protect the equipment, not people. We believed we could change that.

So, we used the same vertically integrated U.S. manufacturing line to create a family of Nano HVAC filters — including MERV 13 filters that could capture virus-size particles while still working in most systems. It was the mask technology, scaled for your home.

What We Built

  • Independently lab-tested filters with proven virus capture.
  • U.S.-made media that cost us up to $25 per filter to produce.
  • A product line spanning MERV 8, 11, and 13 to cover 90% of U.S. home HVAC sizes.

We were proud of the product. It worked, and our customers loved the quality.

Why We’re Closing

But building the best filter doesn’t guarantee a sustainable business. Here’s why we couldn’t make the numbers work:

  1. Shipping economics: Filters are bulky and expensive to ship one at a time.
  2. SKU complexity: Unlike masks, HVAC filters require hundreds of sizes to serve most homes.
  3. Market behavior: Consumers prefer buying filters at retail when they pick up other supplies.

Despite trying everything — subscriptions, school pilots, contractor programs, even door-to-door filter sizing — the model never scaled.
